Water Safety Advice For Business Premises Over Christmas Shutdown

Checks prior to shutdown

Careful thought should be given to water systems during Christmas for shutdown periods. It may be necessary to shut off water supplies whilst a building remains unoccupied.

Where necessary, water systems should be drained to prevent leaks during periods of prolonged vacancy.

But consideration needs to be given to any remaining occupants. Therefore taps, facilities, and sprinklers may still need to run and the building will still need heating for any remaining occupants.

Water hygiene

Water is a fundamental part of life and life would be impossible without it. We must be water aware and out of sight must never be out of mind. Water is an integral part of our buildings, so good water hygiene and legionella management are essential aspects of compliance.

Maintaining good water hygiene management reduces the risks of Legionella outbreaks that can be fatal.

The growth of bacteria in water systems is common and legionella bacteria under specific conditions can proliferate in the built environment.

But why does that matter?

It’s about keeping your employees safe and is more than just ticking a box. Ligtas are members of the Legionella Control Association (LCA) with highly qualified and experienced water safety consultants. They can assist in achieving full legislative compliance which can be tailored to your needs.

If you would like to learn more then sign up for our 1/2 day Legionella awareness in-house and virtual classroom course. Bookings can be made online, via the telephone at 02922 800 000, or enquiries@ligtas. Six or more delegates have you considered in-house training?

Webinar

Did you catch our highly informative webinar on Legionella?

If not here’s a brief intro of what was covered…

Workplaces left unoccupied or with reduced occupancy can be a potential breeding ground for legionella.

In our webinar, Alastair Green - Head of Field Operations at Ligtas shares his guidance.

Once again we’d like to gently remind you that the water quality of hot and cold water systems in these buildings must be considered for legionella risk factors as well as water system recommissioning

If you have any questions on Legionella then please contact our trusted experts at Ligtas.
